Description

This wine is a tribute to an ancestor of the Mazzei family: Filippo Mazzei. 
"Philip" is produced by the best hand-picked Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, from different vineyards in Chianti region and in Maremma. The wine tries to link the elegance of the Chianti region with the powerful aromas of the Maremma region.


Colour: Deep ruby colour.
Aroma: Dark fruit character (black cherry, blueberries) with an elegant balsamic note of eucalyptus and a complex bouquet of black spices.

Taste: Full-bodied wine, with high integrated tannins and a long lasting finish.

Grape: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Ageing: 18 months oak barrels ageing-

A long lasting bond unites the Mazzei family with Tuscany and wines since the XI century.

Lapo Mazzei is the author of the first known document to use the "Chianti" denomination in 1398; in 1435, when his granddaughter Madonna Smeralda Mazzei married Piero di Agnolo da Fonterutoli, the holding became part of the family's estate.
Since then, for 24 generations, the Mazzei family produces wine at Castello di Fonterutoli, which even after its recent expansion still remains the beating heart of the company.

Wine pairing notes

The powerful aroma of the chicken, characterized by the mix of spices and Chinese rose wine, is balanced by the characteristics of this Toscana IGT wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon.
The lingering aroma of rose well combine with the eucalyptus notes of the wine, creating a pleasant balsamic aftertaste. Moreover, the spices of the "Philip" balance the bittersweetness of the dish, brought by the ginger and all the other spices. 
The wine helps to keep under control the strong spices used for this simmered chicken recipe, enhancing the delicate aroma of the chicken meat.
